Watched it today for the first time in awhile, still easily one of the greatest. Just think. It could have been Gene Hackman and Michelle Pfeiffer. Hopkins was fourth choice (or something like that) and Jodi Foster had to almost beg for the part. The adaptation from the novel is one of the best in cinema, add Demme's claustrophobic direction, Howard Shore's score and Ted levine's remarkable performance, a great supporting cast, great set design. the list goes on and on... This is weird but when he looks up and snifs I'm reminded of the velociraptor looking up and noticing the open cage door in Jurassic Park 3 lol. Anthony Hopkins performance as the deranged genius Hannibal Lecter earned him a well deserved Academy Award and the same was true of Jodie Foster's performance as Clarice Starling. This film should go down in history as one of the greatest suspense films in the history of cinema.
